Medigap Plan D

Plan D is a one of Medicare Supplement insurance plans that helps with paying some of the out-of-pocket costs left by Original Medicare, such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. Like every Supplement policy, Plan D is standardized by the government, meaning that all Medigap Plan D policies must offer the same basic benefits, regardless of the location and insurance carrier.

Plan D Coverage

Some of the benefits that Medigap Plan D covers include:

  • Part A hospital coinsurance and up to an additional 365 days of hospital coverage
  • Part B coinsurance or copayment
  • The first three pints of blood every year
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance
  • Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
  • Part A hospital deductible
  • Part B excess charges

Medigap Plan D is considered as one of the more comprehensive Medigap plans available, providing a broad range of coverage that is more extensive than plans A and B. It covers all the benefits of Plan A and B (basic benefits), plus a few additional benefits such as coverage for Part A hospital deductible and Part B excess charges.

It is important to note that Medigap Plan D does not cover some benefits that are covered by other plans like foreign travel emergency care.

Keep in mind that Medigap Plan D is not the right choice for everyone, and it’s important to consult with a Medicare expert before making a decision. The cost of the plan varies by location and insurance company, it’s a good idea to compare the costs and benefits with other plans before making a decision.
