Medigap Plan M

Plan M is a type of Medicare Supplement insurance that helps filling the gaps in payment after Original Medicare gives its share. Like all Medigap plans, Plan M is standardized by the government, meaning that all Medigap Plan M policies must offer the same basic benefits, regardless of the state.

Supplemental Plan M

One of the main benefits of Medigap Plan M is that it covers a good range of out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare, such as:

  • Part A hospital coinsurance and up to an additional 365 days of hospital coverage
  • Part B coinsurance or copayment
  • The first three pints of blood
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance
  • 50% of the Part A hospital deductible
  • 50% of the Part B excess charges

It’s important to note that Medigap Plan M does not cover some benefits that are covered by other plans like foreign travel emergency care or preventive care.

This plan is a good choice for those who want more coverage than what’s offered in, for example Plan K, but with a lower monthly premium. Keep in mind that Medigap Plan M is not the right choice for everyone, and it’s important to consult with a Medicare expert before making a decision.
